The Ise Archaeological Research Society invites you to a presentation by archaeologist Matthew Morris from Leicester University. The talk is “Richard 111.” This is an opportunity to find out what has been discovered since his remains were recovered from the car park in Leicester.
The talk will be on Wednesday 13th November at 7.30pm in St Andrew’s Church Rooms, Crown St, Kettering NN16 8QA and will be preceded by a short AGM. Entry is now £5 for members or £6 for non-members and membership is £11.

About Us
In 1996 crop marks were noticed in a field on Whitegates Farm in Rushton. Fortunately the farmer, David Palmer, was interested in archaeology and asked an archaeological friend to take a look, Thus, the Ise Archaeological Research Society was started. The crop marks turned out to be a Roman bath house. A villa is thought to be close by either in one of the adjacent field or has been quarried away as there were ironstone quarries in the area.
The excavation continued until 2008 when the dig was forced to close down by Natural England. It was thought that the lower Entry Level Stewardship scheme meant that the dig would be able to continue but unfortunately that was not the case. Despite an appeal we were not able to reopen the site. This means that there is still the remains of the bath house and the underlying Iron Age site waiting to be excavated at some time in the future.
Talks were started during the winter months as a way of members maintaining contact with each other. When the excavation stopped the number of talks was increased. Now we have 9 talks a year plus at least one visit to places of interest.
Our talks take place in St Andrew’s Church Rooms, Crown St Kettering NN16 8QA. The car park is almost at the end of Crown St on the right hand side. From the car park you walk down the right hand side of the building to the end. There you will see a ramp. Go up the ramp and through the door and turn right. The room we use is on the left.
